Flow Stopping Services

Flow stopping provides you with the opportunity to isolate a section of your pipeline whilst essential repair and maintenance work is carried out. This method uses a drilling to create a hole in the pipe line whilst under pressure, then a plugging head or bag is lowered in to the pipeline to stop the flow of the product.

MTS Contracting is one of only a few companies offering squeeze off across the PE size and pressure range in the UK below is a table showing our capabilities and pressure ranges.

The systems we have available are:

Squeeze off from 16mm to 500mm for up to 2bar.
Squeeze off from 63mm to 315mm for up to 7bar IP Gas.

Squeeze Off

Specific to line stopping of PE gas and water mains, squeeze-off is a technique that uses the elastic nature of polyethylene by compressing the pipe between parallel bars to stop the flow of gas or water and isolate the pipeline, while connections or repairs are carried out.

Stopple

A unique and complete folding head plugging flow stop system,

our stoppling operations are carried out to isolate metallic and polyethylene pipelines up to 7 bar gas and 10 bar for water mains.

Continuity of supply is maintained through the construction of a by-pass to reduce disruption to customers.

Iris Stop

Specifically used to isolate low pressure gas metallic pipelines, our IRIS line stop equipment is deployed through access points drilled into the main or through the outlet of.

The technique consists of an expanding fan (or IRIS), that opens after deployment and supports inflatable bag stoppers that are used in this particular line stopping solution

Bag Off

Specifically designed for low pressure gas mains, we carry out bag stop services on metallic and PE pipelines, using our special electrofusion branch saddles or metallic tees to deploy the bag stop equipment within the pipeline.
